SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 15
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize singer, songwriter, and pianist John Legend for his
  accomplishments in the field of entertainment and his many
  contributions to civic and philanthropic causes; and
         WHEREAS, A five-time Grammy Award winner, John Legend
  burst into public consciousness in 2004 with his
  multiplatinum-selling debut album Get Lifted; he has also
  collaborated with such artists as Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Lauryn
  Hill, and Alicia Keys to produce an impressive body of memorable
  music; and
         WHEREAS, John Legend has broadened his appeal by branching
  out into television and movies, appearing several times on The
  Colbert Report and in the film Soul Men with Samuel L. Jackson and
  the late Bernie Mac; his music has been featured in the sound
  tracks for the films Hitch and The Second Chance; and
         WHEREAS, He has made a difference in the lives of many
  people by starting the Show Me Campaign, which works to aid the
  victims of extreme poverty in Mbola, Tanzania; he has also
  performed at the Live Earth concert, the Peace One Day concert,
  and the 2008 Democratic National Convention; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend John Legend on his many achievements
  and contributions to society and extend to him best wishes for
  continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
