SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 30
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Edward J. Dokupil
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Bastrop in mourning the loss of the Right Reverend
  Monsignor Edward J. Dokupil, who died January 18, 2009, at the
  age of 72; and
         WHEREAS, Edward Dokupil was born October 31, 1936; a
  self-described temperamental child who hated school, he left
  home to enroll in the seminary, and he was ordained into the
  priesthood in 1964; and
         WHEREAS, For nearly forty years, Monsignor Dokupil served
  the parishioners of Ascension Catholic Church in Bastrop; under
  his steady leadership, the church grew from 100 to more than
  1,000 families; and
         WHEREAS, Monsignor Dokupil strove to make his church a
  place of inclusion where all felt welcome; he initiated a Spanish
  Mass even though he barely spoke the language and encouraged
  young people to attend by featuring contemporary music and
  PowerPoint presentations in special services; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion,
  Monsignor Dokupil gave generously to others, and his wisdom,
  warmth, and timely counsel will not be forgotten by those who
  knew him; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted pastor, brother, and friend, and
  his family and friends will continue to live with the cherished
  memories of his life and his many accomplishments; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of the Right Reverend Monsignor Edward J. Dokupil: his
  sister, RosaLee Wilkerson; and his brothers, Tom, Bob, Charles,
  and William Dokupil; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of the Right Reverend Monsignor Edward J. Dokupil.
