SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 48
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  welcome the Denton County delegation to Austin for a festive
  celebration of Denton County Days at the State Capitol on
  February 9 and 10, 2009; and
 
         WHEREAS, In partnership with Collin and Grayson Counties,
  Denton County is participating in the first Tri-County Event at
  the State Capitol, which is being held to demonstrate regional
  cooperation in the North Texas area; and
 
         WHEREAS, Denton County was created in 1846 from the
  original Peters Colony Grant in Fannin County, and the new county
  was named for John B. Denton, a pioneer lawyer and Methodist
  minister; and
 
         WHEREAS, Denton County is located in North Texas and serves
  as the gateway to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and the City
  of Denton serves as the county seat; with its massive limestone
  blocks and soaring clock tower, the majestic Denton County
  Courthouse is one of the most impressive sights in the area; and
 
         WHEREAS, Denton County has a thriving business culture
  that contributes to the area's progressive development and
  vibrant economy; and
 
         WHEREAS, Denton County offers residents and visitors many
  cultural and recreational activities; outdoors enthusiasts enjoy
  the area's many lakes; music lovers can attend a wealth of live
  performances, and racing fans are drawn from miles around to the
  Texas Motor Speedway; and
 
         WHEREAS, Renowned for its many excellent educational
  opportunities, Denton County is home to 11 public school
  districts; in addition, the University of North Texas, Texas
  Woman's University, and North Central Texas College offer
  students outstanding options for continuing their education; and
 
         WHEREAS, The residents of Denton County are rightfully
  proud of their illustrious history and their many contributions
  to the rich legacy of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby recognize February 9 and 10, 2009, as Denton
  County Days at the State Capitol and extend best wishes to the
  county's delegation for a memorable celebration; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a
  memento of these special days.
