SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 53
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
  tribute to the Reverend Dr. Shirley Murray on the grand occasion
  of her 77th birthday; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Shirley Murray is the charming and devoted
  first lady and co-pastor of Full Gospel Holy Temple Church in
  Dallas; she is the wife of the Reverend Lobias Murray, with whom
  she has worked in the ministry for 47 years; and
         WHEREAS, Noted for her deep religious convictions, her
  compassion for others, and her inexhaustible patience, she
  brings to her ministry the messages of hope, inspiration, and
  deliverance; and
         WHEREAS, Her humanitarian outreach extends beyond the
  church; she is well known in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas for
  her sensitivity to the needs of the homeless and the
  underprivileged, for whom she provides food, clothing, and other
  supplies through the Helping Hand Outreach Ministry; and
         WHEREAS, She is the founder and president of the Shirley
  Murray Child Development Center, a licensed and accredited
  facility that ranks among the top preschools in Dallas; she is
  also the cofounder of the Lobias Murray Christian Academy, the
  first fully accredited 12-grade African-American-owned private
  school in Texas; and
         WHEREAS, On January 19, 2009, members of the Full Gospel
  Holy Temple churches will honor Dr. Murray with a banquet in
  celebration of her 77th birthday; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby recognize the Reverend Dr. Shirley Murray as
  a treasured citizen of this state and commend her for her
  spiritual leadership and her many contributions to her
  community; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
