SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 65
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Bryan Little League West Senior boys' baseball |
|
|
team, which recently won the title of United States Southwest |
|
|
Champions and participated in the 2008 Senior League World |
|
|
Series; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Bryan West won a series of tournaments on their |
|
|
way to becoming United States Southwest Champions, defeating |
|
|
teams from Beaumont, New Braunfels, New Mexico, Louisiana, and |
|
|
Colorado before sweeping Laredo in back-to-back victories to |
|
|
advance to the Senior League World Series in Bangor, Maine, where |
|
|
they defeated teams from Vilnius, Lithuania and Willemstad, |
|
|
Curaçao; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These young athletes have demonstrated great |
|
|
talent and perseverance throughout the year, ending the season |
|
|
with a record of 19-4; team members Matt Byer, David Contreras, |
|
|
Tommy Galvan, Arthur Garza, Nathan Kiser, Aron Longoria, Michael |
|
|
Martinez, Miguel Perez, Steven Spies, Jacob Spivey, Jacob |
|
|
Sutherland, Albert Vasquez, and David Williams can take great |
|
|
pride in their outstanding performance; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of |
|
|
manager Richard Martinez and with the superb assistance of |
|
|
coaches Tommy Galvan and Jonathan Martinez, the Bryan West club |
|
|
has developed exceptional teamwork and discipline; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The City of Bryan is proud of the team for its hard |
|
|
work, impressive skills, and fine sportsmanship; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the Bryan Little League West Senior |
|
|
boys' baseball team on its successful season and extend |
|
|
congratulations on winning the title of United States Southwest |
|
|
Champions and participating in the 2008 Senior League World |
|
|
Series; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the team as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
