SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 69
         WHEREAS, When they married many years ago, Charlene and
  Earl Long placed great faith and trust in one another, and they
  have been amply rewarded, as they are celebrating their 55th
  wedding anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, Thomas Earl Long and Frances Charlene Vaught were
  struck by love at first sight and were married on February 5,
  1954; the world has changed considerably during the years of
  their marriage, yet Mr. and Mrs. Long have continued to cherish
  traditional family values; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, they have grown stronger in their
  love and devotion as together they have experienced the joys and
  sorrows of everyday living; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Long have been blessed with a
  wonderful family; their sons, Dwight Earl and Richard Eugene,
  their grandchildren, Randy and Erin, and their "adopted"
  daughter, Charlotte Ann, have been a source of much pride and
  joy; and
         WHEREAS, Earl had a long and productive career with the
  Shell Development Company, where he played a significant role in
  the development of several important medical procedures;
  Charlene is an acknowledged world-class needlepoint designer and
  has been active in numerous civic and philanthropic
  organizations, including the Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth
  Century, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Lake Conroe Area
  Republican Women; and
         WHEREAS, The long and happy union of Mr. and Mrs. Long is
  truly an inspiration to us all; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere congratulations to Mr. and
  Mrs. Long on their 55th wedding anniversary; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  this distinguished couple as a memento of this special day in
  their lives.
