SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 81
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Howard Jones, Sr.
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Howard Jones, Sr.,
  who died January 24, 2009, at the age of 93; and
         WHEREAS, Howard Jones, Sr., was born February 8, 1915, in
  Hempstead, where he attended the public schools and Rock Island
  Church; and
         WHEREAS, He was married to the late Virginia Steptoe Jones,
  and the couple raised four sons; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was an exemplary citizen and was
  respected in the community for his many accomplishments; a devout
  Christian, he practiced his faith in his daily life; after moving
  to Houston, he became a devoted member of Lyons Unity Missionary
  Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave generously to others, and his wisdom, kindness, and dignity
  will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was a devoted husband, father, and
  grandfather, and he will long be remembered with admiration and
  affection by all who were privileged to share in his life; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Howard Jones, Sr.:  his children, Willie L. Jones and
  Ray C. Jones, Sr.; his sister, Melvina Williams; and his 12
  grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and
  great-great-grandchildren; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Howard Jones, Sr.
