SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 93

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. William Farney, who is retiring as director of the University Interscholastic League after more than 30 years of outstanding service to the organization; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Farney joined the University Interscholastic League in 1977 as athletic director and assistant to the director following a highly successful career as a teacher, coach, and administrator in schools in Texas and Oklahoma; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Dr. Farney has endeavored to strengthen public education and promote sportsmanship among student athletes; he is a member of the National Federation Basketball Rules Committee, the National Swimming and Diving Rules Committee, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association Football Rules Committee; and

WHEREAS, Talented and resourceful, Dr. Farney has won numerous awards for his efforts to improve the quality of public education and interscholastic competition; he has participated in state and national studies on athletic injuries and is recognized as a leader in assisting projects involving dental and medical information; and

WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, Dr. Farney is respected and admired by his colleagues, and his presence at the University Interscholastic League will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Dr. William Farney on his dedication to public education and the advancement of spirited competition and sportsmanship and extend to him best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
