SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 99
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Edward Salomons
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Edward Salomons,
  who died January 14, 2009, at the age of 81; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to a family
  whose roots in that country dated back to the 18th century,
  Edward Salomons was a Holocaust survivor who spent most of the
  years of World War II in concentration camps; and
         WHEREAS, Following the war, Mr. Salomons emigrated to the
  United States, where he followed in his family's footsteps and
  built a successful jewelry manufacturing business; begun in New
  York, his business later expanded into Puerto Rico and Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Salomons became active in politics and was a
  passionate supporter of President Ronald Reagan; a
  well-respected businessman, he was called upon to represent the
  United States in Japan as a representative for his industry, and
  he was honored by the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Salomons was a devoted husband and father, and
  he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
  family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Edward Salomons: his loving wife of 42 years, Celia
  Mendez-Salomons; his sons, Steven Salomons and Dr. Howard
  Salomons; his sister, Rebecca Siegel; and his two grandchildren;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Edward Salomons.
