SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 137
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the senior citizens of our state and to join them and |
|
|
all Texans in celebrating Senior Day at the State Capitol on |
|
|
February 10, 2009; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Senior citizens are coming together for their |
|
|
fifth legislative session to discuss their mutual interests and |
|
|
to talk with their elected officials about the issues that affect |
|
|
them, their families, and society as a whole; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The theme chosen for this year's event, |
|
|
Seniors--the Heart of Texas, confirms the essential value of our |
|
|
older citizens and the many contributions they have made to the |
|
|
Lone Star State; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With their wealth of experience, their wisdom, |
|
|
and their many years of working, paying taxes, and volunteering |
|
|
in their communities, our senior citizens have built the |
|
|
foundation on which Texans have achieved greatness in many fields |
|
|
and in all aspects of life; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Texas seniors reflect the state's diverse |
|
|
cultural roots and exemplify the spirit of cooperation, |
|
|
responsibility, and dedication to the common good that has |
|
|
strengthened communities and made this state a better place; the |
|
|
people of Texas are indebted to seniors for their lifetime of |
|
|
work, their service to others, and the example they set; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Senior Day at the Capitol is an opportunity to |
|
|
focus on issues facing seniors in Texas and to celebrate the many |
|
|
contributions made by these valuable citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to our senior citizens for the |
|
|
vital role they have played in the past and for their continuing |
|
|
service to society and extend to them best wishes for an |
|
|
enjoyable and rewarding Senior Day at the State Capitol; and, be |
|
|
it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
them as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate. |
