SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 149
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Lance Corporal Justin Rokohl for his service to our
  nation in Afghanistan and for his courage in overcoming severe
  injuries that has set an enduring example for others to follow;
  and
         WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Rokohl is a 2005 graduate of Orange
  Grove High School, where he was an active participant in numerous
  competitive sports; he answered the call to service and joined
  the United States Marine Corps shortly after his graduation; and
         WHEREAS, While serving our nation in Afghanistan, Lance
  Corporal Rokohl was severely injured when an improvised
  explosive device blew up the vehicle carrying him and three
  fellow Marines; thrown 90 feet into the air, he suffered multiple
  injuries, including eight broken vertebrae; and
         WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Rokohl survived eight hours of
  emergency surgery, during which doctors amputated both of his
  legs in order to save his life; refusing to give in to his
  injuries, he fought back, and within five months was again
  competing in Texas rodeos as a team roper; and
         WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Rokohl embodies the valor and
  dedication to freedom that the members of the United States
  Marine Corps have shown on behalf of our nation and its
  democratic ideals, and his bravery and perseverance have set a
  sterling example for all; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend Lance Corporal Justin Rokohl on his
  courage in the face of adversity and extend to him sincere
  gratitude for his service to our nation and best wishes for
  continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
