SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 233

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Lucy Rede Franco Middle School Band of Presidio County, which has been named The Spirit of STAR DAY 2009 School Band by the STAR Day Foundation of El Paso County; and

WHEREAS, State of Texas Anniversary Remembrance Day is celebrated in Texas each year on February 19 to commemorate the anniversary of Texas' entry into the United States on February 19, 1846, as the 28th state in the union; and

WHEREAS, As part of the Spirit of STAR DAY 2009 Celebration at the Texas Capitol on February 19, 2009, the Lucy Rede Franco Middle School Band is performing in concert in the historic Texas Capitol Rotunda; and

WHEREAS, The band has worked hard to earn this special honor and to make the trip to Austin to perform; under the expert leadership of band director Lucy Ferguson, these exemplary young musicians have rehearsed extensively and have developed outstanding musicianship; they are justly deserving of praise for their diligence and their commitment to excellence; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend the Lucy Rede Franco Middle School Band on their dedication and hard work and extend congratulations to this outstanding organization on being named The Spirit of STAR DAY 2009 School Band; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the band as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
