SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 262
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Wilson Archer
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Humble in mourning the loss of Wilson Archer, who
  died January 28, 2009, at the age of 73; and
         WHEREAS, A longtime public servant and successful
  entrepreneur, Wilson Archer was born and raised in Humble; he was
  a 1954 graduate of Charles Bender High School, and he served the
  city for 25 years as an elected official; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Archer was elected mayor in 1995 after serving
  15 years as a city council member; during his 10 years as mayor,
  he worked hard to ensure that the infrastructure of the city kept
  pace with the growing demands of residents, and he was able to add
  approximately $50 million to the city's coffers through
  negotiation with the Harris County Metropolitan Transit
  Authority; and
         WHEREAS, Further examples of his foresight are his vision
  to build the Humble Civic Center and his initiative to create the
  seniors' gardening program, which became known as Archer's Acre;
  and
         WHEREAS, Earlier in his career, Mr. Archer owned a chain of
  local convenience stores called Wilson Superette, which
  supported sports teams and schools in addition to providing
  needed jobs and economic activity to the area; and
         WHEREAS, Active in civic affairs, Mr. Archer participated
  in numerous organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America,
  the Northeast Medical Center Hospital, the Humble Area
  Assistance Ministries, and the FamilyTime Foundation; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, vision, and compassion, he gave
  unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel
  will not be forgotten by those who knew him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Wilson Archer: his sons, Curtis and Craig; his
  granddaughter, Cassie; his brother, Haden Archer; and his
  sister, Jan Lou Bar; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Wilson Archer.
