SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 273
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the Urban League of Greater Dallas in paying tribute to Dr.
  Barbara Cambridge for her outstanding accomplishments and her
  many contributions to her community and her profession; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Cambridge is being recognized as a legacy
  honoree at the annual meeting of the Urban League of Greater
  Dallas on February 26, 2009; the Urban League is the nation's
  oldest and largest community-based movement devoted to
  empowering African Americans and others to enter the economic and
  social mainstream; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Cambridge is a licensed clinical social
  worker, psychotherapist, author, lecturer, and consultant; she
  joined the faculty at The University of Texas Southwestern
  Medical School in 1969 and provides psychosocial support and
  mental health services to low-income women; she was the
  university's first African American female associate professor;
  and
         WHEREAS, She is known for her passion, her commitment, and
  her leadership in addressing issues that have a negative impact
  on women and the community; she has been an advocate for women
  living with HIV and AIDS for more than 20 years; and
         WHEREAS, An active leader in the Dallas and North Texas
  communities, Dr. Cambridge has been recognized as Social Worker
  of the Year and received numerous awards, including the Maura
  Award, North Texas Planned Parenthood's Gertrude Shelburne
  Humanitarian Award, United Way's Extra Mile Award, the American
  Jewish Congress Women of Spirit Award, and Leadership Dallas'
  Distinguished Alumni Award; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Barbara Cambridge for her
  service to her community and her many achievements and
  congratulate her on being named a legacy honoree by the Urban
  League of Greater Dallas; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
