SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 289

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join citizens across the state in paying tribute to our state's osteopathic physicians by celebrating February 26, 2009, as Osteopathic Medicine Day at the State Capitol; and

WHEREAS, Osteopathic physicians are committed to the philosophy of meeting the health care needs of the whole person and the whole family, embracing the concept that peoples' lifestyles play a vital role in their health and well-being; and

WHEREAS, Offering primary care, preventive medical services, public health services, and a wide array of specialty services to the citizens of Texas, osteopathic physicians also serve the needs of many in rural and underserved areas of the state; and

WHEREAS, The University of North Texas Health Science Center's Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine continues to train physicians who enter the field of primary care medicine in numbers substantially higher than the national and state average; and

WHEREAS, The 3,700 osteopathic physicians in our state play a vital role in Texas' health care system, and they are truly deserving of recognition for their many contributions to the health and welfare of Texans; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend the osteopathic physicians of Texas for their commitment to providing high-quality, comprehensive personalized health care and call upon all Texans to recognize their many contributions to our state by observing February 26, 2009, as Osteopathic Medicine Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for these dedicated physicians as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
