SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 321
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Robert A. Simpson, Sr.
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Robert A. Simpson,
  Sr., who died February 15, 2009, at the age of 65; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Simpson was director of bands at Paul Quinn
  College and founder and executive director of Third Coast Arts
  Center, Incorporated; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Corsicana on August 29, 1943, to Allen and
  Geraldine Shaw, Mr. Simpson grew up and attended school in
  Corsicana and was baptized there at an early age; and
         WHEREAS, He began his professional career in 1966 as a high
  school teacher of instrumental music in Sulphur Springs, Texas;
  he served as head of the Fine Arts Department of the
  Wilmer-Hutchins Independent School District from 1972 to 2003;
  he was director of marching, concert, and jazz band studies and
  taught music theory and history; and
         WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Wilmer-Hutchins Independent
  School District, he was a writer and musician for Abnak Music
  Enterprise; a talented and versatile musician, he served as
  musical director for the Junior Black Academy of Arts and Letters
  production of "Fly Black Bird," was a member of the City Summer
  Orchestra, produced programs for Dallas Cable Television, and
  performed with many popular entertainers; and
         WHEREAS, A distinguished and admired educator, Robert A.
  Simpson, Sr., had a positive influence on the lives of many
  students and musicians; he was a devoted husband, father, and
  grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished
  forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Robert A. Simpson, Sr.:  his wife of 42 years, Carol;
  his daughter, Sonia; his son, Robert A. Simpson, Jr.; his father,
  Allen; his grandson, Quinton; and his stepsisters, Judy and
  Rene'; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Robert A. Simpson, Sr.
