SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 323

In Memory

of

Shyamala Gopalan Harris

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Dr. Shyamala Gopalan Harris, who died February 11, 2009; and

WHEREAS, An exceptional citizen, Dr. Harris was a noted breast cancer specialist who was widely respected in the community for her many accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Harris was devoted to her family, and her family and friends will continue to live with the treasured memories of her life and her many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Dr. Shyamala Gopalan Harris: her daughters, Kamala Harris and Maya Harris; her mother, Rajam Gopalan; her brother, Dr. G. Balachandran; and her sisters, Mahalakshmi and Dr. Sarala; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Shyamala Gopalan Harris.
