SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 324
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in |
|
recognizing March 17, 2009, as Teach For America Day at the |
|
Capitol; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Teach For America is a national organization that |
|
recruits a corps of outstanding recent college graduates to help |
|
carry out its goal of tackling educational inequity; corps |
|
members commit to teach for two years in the urban and rural |
|
public schools of high-poverty communities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Teach For America in Texas participates in that |
|
effort to ensure that all students, regardless of race or family |
|
income, have the chance to attain an excellent education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The teachers are trained to go above and beyond |
|
traditional teaching methods to lead their students to |
|
significant academic achievement; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Currently, nearly 600 corps members are working |
|
across the State of Texas, and they are serving more than 50,000 |
|
students; through their service, they help to overcome the |
|
challenges faced by children growing up in low-income |
|
communities, and the positive impact they have on their students |
|
serves as an example and an inspiration to others in the field of |
|
education; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
Legislature, hereby commend all associated with Teach For |
|
America in Texas and extend a heartfelt welcome to the current |
|
and former corps members who are visiting the Capitol today; and, |
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
honor of Teach For America in Texas. |
