SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 324
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
  recognizing March 17, 2009, as Teach For America Day at the
  Capitol; and
 
         WHEREAS, Teach For America is a national organization that
  recruits a corps of outstanding recent college graduates to help
  carry out its goal of tackling educational inequity; corps
  members commit to teach for two years in the urban and rural
  public schools of high-poverty communities; and
 
         WHEREAS, Teach For America in Texas participates in that
  effort to ensure that all students, regardless of race or family
  income, have the chance to attain an excellent education; and
 
         WHEREAS, The teachers are trained to go above and beyond
  traditional teaching methods to lead their students to
  significant academic achievement; and
 
         WHEREAS, Currently, nearly 600 corps members are working
  across the State of Texas, and they are serving more than 50,000
  students; through their service, they help to overcome the
  challenges faced by children growing up in low-income
  communities, and the positive impact they have on their students
  serves as an example and an inspiration to others in the field of
  education; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend all associated with Teach For
  America in Texas and extend a heartfelt welcome to the current
  and former corps members who are visiting the Capitol today; and,
  be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of Teach For America in Texas.
