SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 342
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Eduardo E. de Ases
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Judge Eduardo
  E. de Ases, who died February 21, 2009, at the age of 80; and
         WHEREAS, Born October 26, 1928, in Refugio, Judge Eduardo
  de Ases graduated from Corpus Christi High School and attended
  Del Mar College; he served in the United States Army for five
  years; and
         WHEREAS, Judge de Ases graduated from The University of
  Texas School of Law and entered private practice as an attorney
  in Corpus Christi; he served for four years as an assistant
  county attorney and served three terms as a member of the Corpus
  Christi City Council; and
         WHEREAS, In 1980, Judge de Ases was appointed magistrate on
  the Southern District Court of Texas; he was the first Hispanic
  in our nation to be appointed full-time as a federal magistrate
  judge, and he served with distinction until retiring from the
  bench in 1996; and
         WHEREAS, Judge de Ases was dedicated to his work as a
  magistrate and as a leader in the community; he served as a mentor
  to elementary school children and helped people through his work
  with the Corpus Christi Literacy Council; he was the recipient of
  the Cecil E. Burney Humanitarian Award from the Corpus Christi
  Bar Association; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Judge Eduardo E. de Ases: his loving wife of 49 years,
  Maria; his sons, Carlos and Rene; his daughter, Juanita; his
  brother, Lawrence; and his three grandchildren; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Judge Eduardo E. de Ases.
