Eduardo E. de Ases |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
|
citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Judge Eduardo |
|
|
E. de Ases, who died February 21, 2009, at the age of 80; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born October 26, 1928, in Refugio, Judge Eduardo |
|
|
de Ases graduated from Corpus Christi High School and attended |
|
|
Del Mar College; he served in the United States Army for five |
|
|
years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Judge de Ases graduated from The University of |
|
|
Texas School of Law and entered private practice as an attorney |
|
|
in Corpus Christi; he served for four years as an assistant |
|
|
county attorney and served three terms as a member of the Corpus |
|
|
Christi City Council; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1980, Judge de Ases was appointed magistrate on |
|
|
the Southern District Court of Texas; he was the first Hispanic |
|
|
in our nation to be appointed full-time as a federal magistrate |
|
|
judge, and he served with distinction until retiring from the |
|
|
bench in 1996; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Judge de Ases was dedicated to his work as a |
|
|
magistrate and as a leader in the community; he served as a mentor |
|
|
to elementary school children and helped people through his work |
|
|
with the Corpus Christi Literacy Council; he was the recipient of |
|
|
the Cecil E. Burney Humanitarian Award from the Corpus Christi |
|
|
Bar Association; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
|
family of Judge Eduardo E. de Ases: his loving wife of 49 years, |
|
|
Maria; his sons, Carlos and Rene; his daughter, Juanita; his |
|
|
brother, Lawrence; and his three grandchildren; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
|
day, it do so in memory of Judge Eduardo E. de Ases. |
