SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 350

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College Mariachi Escorpión; and

WHEREAS, Mariachi Escorpión has received an invitation from the World American Cultural Exchanges and Chinese universities to perform on several university campuses in China in May of this year; and

WHEREAS, This tour of performances in China will allow Mariachi Escorpión to introduce the unique style of mariachi music to a new audience and to further the musical and cultural exchange between the United States and China; and

WHEREAS, The highly acclaimed musical group performs under the direction of Antonio Briseño and is representative of true mariachi music and customs; the group's visit to China is an opportunity for people from two different cultures to share their artistic talents and interests; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend the members of The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College Mariachi Escorpión on their exceptional skills as musicians and extend congratulations to them on this prestigious invitation from the World American Cultural Exchanges and the Chinese universities; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Mariachi Escorpión as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
