SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 357
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize DeVry University for its outstanding contributions to |
|
higher education and to declare March 3, 2009, as DeVry Day in |
|
Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, DeVry University is a leading provider of higher |
|
education and one of the largest degree-granting higher education |
|
systems in North America; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in Illinois in 1931 and established in |
|
Texas in 1969, DeVry University has graduated more than 235,000 |
|
undergraduate students nationwide since 1975; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, DeVry University has responded to the growing |
|
marketplace demand for graduates with associate's, bachelor's, |
|
and master's degrees in the fields of business, technology, |
|
management, and health care technology; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, DeVry University's mission is to foster student |
|
learning through high-quality, career-oriented education |
|
integrating technology, business, and management; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, DeVry University achieves this mission by using a |
|
curriculum that is developed, tested, and continually improved |
|
upon by faculty and administrators through regular assessment |
|
and external consultation with business leaders and other |
|
educators; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, DeVry University prepares graduates for careers |
|
in high-demand fields and works with business and industry |
|
leaders to align the curriculum with current and emerging |
|
workplace trends; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, DeVry University seeks to democratize education and |
|
serves a diverse array of students, including working adults with |
|
family commitments, recent high school graduates, first-time, |
|
first-generation students, and current professionals interested in |
|
taking their career to the next level; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, DeVry University provides an interactive and |
|
collaborative educational environment that strengthens |
|
learning, provides credentialing opportunities, and contributes |
|
to lifelong educational and professional growth; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, DeVry University is regionally accredited by the |
|
Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of |
|
Colleges and Schools and offers flexible year-round online or |
|
onsite course scheduling, including days, nights, and weekends, |
|
to best suit student needs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Nationwide since 1975, 90 percent of DeVry |
|
University graduates active in the job market are employed within |
|
six months of graduation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, DeVry University currently enrolls more than |
|
62,000 students nationwide at one of 92 locations and online; |
|
more than 4,000 of these students are Texas residents; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, DeVry University is committed to making the |
|
United States a competitive leader in science and technology and |
|
strongly supports the State of Texas in Closing the Gaps by 2015; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
Legislature, hereby proclaim March 3, 2009, as DeVry Day in the |
|
State of Texas. |
