SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 363
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  welcome the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers to Austin and to
  join them in celebrating March 10, 2009, as Auto Alliance Day at
  the State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, Formed in 1999, the Alliance has worked to
  initiate consensus-oriented dialogue between the industry and
  federal and state governments and other stakeholders to address
  shared objectives; and
         WHEREAS, The Alliance has made enhancing vehicle safety a
  top priority by supporting voluntary commitments to address
  crash compatibility, driver focus guidelines, side airbags, and
  the goal of eliminating drunk driving; and
         WHEREAS, The Alliance and its member companies have
  supported important environmental initiatives like the federal
  Tier II emissions standards, resulting in vehicles that measured
  by smog-forming emissions, are 99 percent cleaner than vehicles
  manufactured 30 years ago; and
         WHEREAS, The Alliance offered critical support for the
  creation and implementation of the Texas Low Income Vehicle
  Repair and Replacement Assistance Program; and
         WHEREAS, The Alliance is committed to meeting the goals of
  the landmark Energy Independence and Security Act, reducing
  carbon dioxide emissions by at least 30 percent and increasing
  fuel economy by at least 40 percent by 2020; and
         WHEREAS, The Alliance continues to help the auto industry
  transform itself to meet the critical goals of the changing
  world, and there are currently more than 1.1 million alternative
  fuel automobiles on Texas roads and highways, including hybrid
  electric, ethanol-capable flexible-fuel vehicles, and clean
  diesel vehicles; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby applaud the contributions of the Alliance of
  Automobile Manufacturers and its 11 member companies for
  bringing cleaner, safer, and more fuel-efficient vehicles to
  Texas consumers; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  this outstanding organization as an expression of esteem from the
  Texas Senate.
