SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 366
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
  recognizing the Irving Independent School District on its 100th
  anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, The Irving Independent School District began
  observing its centennial in January of this year and is
  celebrating 100 Years of Learning on April 23, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, The district was created by law on April 23, 1909,
  and was formed by merging the community schools of Kit and
  Lively; the district held its classes in a single two-room
  building on the corner of 2nd Street and Jefferson Street and
  served 125 students; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, the district has experienced
  tremendous growth, and it now includes almost 40 schools and
  learning centers; it serves approximately 33,000 students,
  employs more than 4,000 people, and encompasses 48.5 square
  miles; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the Irving Independent
  School District has consistently aimed at providing the
  resources, programs, and educational environment that inspire
  excellence in student performance; and
         WHEREAS, During the 2007-2008 school year, 26 of the
  district's schools earned 66 Gold Performance acknowledgments
  from the Texas Education Agency, and 107 students were recognized
  as Advanced Placement Scholars; in addition, the district is
  known for providing extensive computer access for students and
  teachers; it was selected by Microsoft Corporation as the first
  Microsoft Center of Excellence for its innovative use of
  technology; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout its course of development, the
  district has remained faithful to its core values of offering an
  academically sound education to each of its students and meeting
  the high standards and expectations of the Irving community; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend the Irving Independent School
  District on its success and its exemplary role in the field of
  public education and extend congratulations to all associated
  with the district on its 100th anniversary; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of the Irving Independent School District.
