SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 376
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Joe Audway Knight
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Dayton in mourning the loss of Joe Audway Knight, who
  died on February 17, 2009, at the age of 87; and
         WHEREAS, Joe Knight was raised on a farm in Madison County
  during the Depression and moved with his family to Dayton in
  1930; he served his country in the United States Navy during
  World War II; he attended Harvard Business School and earned a
  degree in business from Tulane University; and
         WHEREAS, He married Mary Lea Moore in 1950, and in 1957, he
  ventured into the publishing business; he was a founder of
  Cordovan Corporation Publishers and served as the company's
  director for 23 years; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted family man and a pillar of the
  community; he helped organize the Dayton Division of the American
  Rice Growers Cooperative Association and served two terms on the
  Dayton City Council; he was a member of the Dayton Volunteer Fire
  Department and a director with the Texas Bank of Cooperatives
  Stockholders' Advisory Committee; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, he gave unselfishly to
  others, and his warmth, wisdom, and wise counsel will not be
  forgotten by those who knew him; and
         WHEREAS, Joe Knight was beloved by his family and friends,
  and he leaves behind memories that will be deeply treasured by
  all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Joe Audway Knight: his wife, Mary; his sons, Joe
  Knight, Jr., and Jay Knight; his two grandchildren; and his
  great-grandson; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Joe Knight.
