SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 378
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
  recognizing Rebecca Robinson, who holds the well-earned title of
  Miss Texas 2008; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University, Rebecca also
  was a student at Universidad de Salamanca in Spain; she grew up on
  a cattle ranch and was a member of the Future Farmers of America
  while attending Buffalo High School; and
         WHEREAS, At the age of 16, Rebecca traveled the state as a
  motivational speaker, and since then, she has taken on numerous
  other leadership roles and a multitude of responsibilities; and
         WHEREAS, She is fluent in Spanish, speaks conversational
  French, and has been studying Portuguese; her employment has
  included serving as a translator and as a bilingual educator; and
         WHEREAS, Rebecca entered the Miss Texas pageant as Miss
  Longview, and she was chosen from a group of hardworking and
  talented contestants to represent the Lone Star State at the Miss
  America pageant; at the Miss America pageant, she was selected as
  Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants; and
         WHEREAS, Rebecca's ambitions include pursuing a master's
  degree in modern languages and applied linguistics and obtaining
  a doctorate in Luso-Brazilian literature; her interests center
  on helping to eradicate cultural barriers, and she is focused on
  utilizing her bilingual capabilities to facilitate links between
  the Spanish-speaking and the English-speaking communities; and
         WHEREAS, As Miss Texas, Rebecca offers presentations at
  schools or educational events through her Texas Cares for
  Children Program; it is a character education program that
  involves teaching young people about the tools needed to find
  success in today's society; and
         WHEREAS, Rebecca is an exemplary young woman of style,
  grace, and charm, and her many accomplishments are a reflection
  of her intelligence and hard work; a role model for all young
  Texans, she sets high standards, and her pursuit of excellence in
  all of her endeavors is an inspiration to others; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby congratulate Rebecca Robinson on her
  exceptional achievements and on earning the title of Miss Texas
  2008 and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
