Guy Cade Jackson III |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Chambers County in mourning the loss of Guy Cade |
|
Jackson III, who died February 23, 2009, at the age of 77; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born August 16, 1931, in San Antonio, Guy Jackson |
|
graduated from Anahuac High School, Texas A&M University, and The |
|
University of Texas School of Law; he married Linda M. Cummins on |
|
November 24, 1961; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was admitted to practice law before the Supreme |
|
Court of Texas, the United States District Courts for Southern |
|
and Eastern Districts of Texas, the United States Fifth Circuit |
|
Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court; a man of |
|
many interests and talents he was also the chief executive |
|
officer and owner of Chambers County Abstract Company, |
|
Incorporated, the owner of County Cross Check, Incorporated, and |
|
an independent real estate broker; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For nearly two decades, Mr. Jackson was president |
|
of the Chambers County Bar Association, and he served his |
|
community and state in innumerable other capacities, including |
|
as a former director of the Texas Water Conservation Association |
|
and a chair of the San Jacinto River Basin and Trinity-San |
|
Jacinto Coastal Basin Assessment Group; he chaired the Chambers |
|
County Historical Commission for 10 years; he was a former |
|
director of the East Texas Legal Services Corporation and a |
|
member of the Chambers-Liberty Counties Navigation District; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A retired lieutenant colonel, Mr. Jackson served |
|
in the United States Army for 23 years of active and reserve |
|
service, including two active-duty tours with principal |
|
assignments in Operations and Intelligence; he received a |
|
Meritorious Service Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, a United |
|
Nations Service Medal, and a Korean Service Medal; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was a devout Christian and a member of First |
|
United Methodist Church; he was a past master of Anahuac Lodge |
|
995 and Old River Lodge 1442 AF & AM and received a Fifty Year |
|
Service Award from the Grand Lodge of Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman of many talents and |
|
interests and a versatile community leader, Guy was highly |
|
respected for his accomplishments and the significant role he |
|
played in so many organizations; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was known for his engaging personality and for |
|
his integrity and generosity; he gave unselfishly of his time and |
|
energy to others and was a distinguished, hardworking citizen; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Guy Jackson was beloved by his family and friends, |
|
and he leaves behind memories that will be deeply treasured by |
|
all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Guy Cade Jackson III: his wife, Linda Cummins Jackson; |
|
his sons, Guy Robert and Steven Lynn; his daughter, Linda Ann; |
|
his brother, James Robert Jackson; and his grandson, Aidan |
|
Patrick Jackson; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Guy Cade Jackson III. |
