SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 388
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the City of Palacios on the occasion of its 100th
  anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, The City of Palacios was incorporated in 1909,
  bringing organization to a growing community; already the home of
  the Hotel Palacios, a newspaper, a railroad station and a popular
  pavilion built over the waters of the bay, Palacios soon began
  organizing churches and schools to meet the needs of its growing
  populace; and
         WHEREAS, Through the years, Palacios has continued to grow
  and prosper; it has been a center for the oyster business and home
  to Camp Hulen, which served the nation as a military post during
  World War II; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Palacios has a flourishing seafood
  industry, which is celebrated at the annual Shrimp-o-Ree; many
  seasonal residents call Palacios their winter home, and
  residents and visitors alike enjoy birding, fishing, strolling
  along the Seawall, and other activities; the area's history is
  brought to life with reenactments of the LaSalle Landing, and the
  historic 1910 Hill Building is being renovated as the city's
  museum; and
         WHEREAS, Palacios offers its residents excellent business
  opportunities and recreational outlets; its citizens are rightly
  proud of its important role in the region's history and its
  standing as an exemplary place in which to live, work, and raise a
  family; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Palacios on their
  many contributions to our state and extend to them best wishes
  for a memorable 100th anniversary celebration; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the city as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
