SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 440
         WHEREAS, A strong work ethic and a commitment to academic
  excellence have earned Jose Chavez of Fort Worth a coveted place
  in the NASA High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) program for 2008
  and 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by NASA and funded by the State of
  Texas, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and Rotary NASA, the
  HAS program fosters interest in science, technology,
  engineering, and math careers among high school students; and
         WHEREAS, Participants are mentored online by NASA
  personnel as they take part in web-based lessons covering the
  space shuttle, the International Space Station, and the
  exploration of the moon and Mars; students who complete the
  lessons participate in a six-day workshop at the Johnson Space
  Center in Houston; and
         WHEREAS, A junior at Southwest High School, Jose Chavez
  promises to join the front ranks of the next generation of
  scientists and engineers through his participation in this
  prestigious program, and he is a source of great pride to his
  family and his school; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby congratulate Jose Chavez on his
  participation in the NASA High School Aerospace Scholars program
  and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and a
  bright future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Chavez as an expression of high regard from the
  Texas Senate.
