SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 449
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  George Allen Crowley
         WHEREAS, The life of an admired jurist drew to a close with
  the passing of the Honorable George Allen Crowley on February 22,
  2009, at the age of 77; and
         WHEREAS, After distinguishing himself in the practice of
  civil law, Judge Crowley was appointed by Governor Mark White to
  preside over the 67th District Court in 1983, and Tarrant County
  voters retained him in that position until he retired in the
  mid-1990s; renowned for his fair and thoughtful decisions, he
  also won acclaim for modernizing the court's jury selection
  process and pioneering the "settlement week" mediation system
  that was subsequently mandated for metropolitan counties
  throughout the state; and
         WHEREAS, George Crowley was born on August 5, 1931, in Fort
  Worth and graduated from Polytechnic High School; he served his
  nation as a member of the United States Army and earned his
  undergraduate degree at The University of Texas at Austin;
  choosing to carry on a family tradition in the legal profession,
  he graduated from The University of Texas School of Law and then
  joined the staff of his father's firm, Crowley, Wright, Miller
  and Garrett, where he worked for 25 years; and
         WHEREAS, He and his wife, Pat, were joined in matrimony
  while Mr. Crowley was still a law student, beginning a marriage
  that spanned more than 50 years; the couple were blessed with two
  children and later welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren
  into the family; and
         WHEREAS, Among the accolades bestowed on Judge Crowley was
  the Silver Gavel Award from the Tarrant County Bar Association,
  the organization's highest judicial honor; this tribute was an
  indication of the great respect Judge Crowley earned from his
  colleagues through the years, and his devoted service was of
  lasting benefit to the citizens of Tarrant County; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable
  George Allen Crowley and extend deepest condolences to the
  members of his family: to his wife, Pat Crowley; to his children,
  Pam Saenz and Allen Crowley; to his four grandchildren and two
  great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
  this day, it do so in memory of Judge Crowley.
