SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 452

James Hubbard |
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |
|
memories of James "Buck" Hubbard of Granbury, who passed away on |
|
February 22, 2009, at the age of 82; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A native of De Queen, Arkansas, Buck Hubbard was |
|
born on June 11, 1926, and moved with his parents to Texas when he |
|
was a child; fighting for his country in World War II, he survived |
|
a kamikaze attack while serving aboard the carrier USS Yorktown; |
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Hubbard returned to Tarrant County following |
|
the war and began a career in sanitation management; he climbed |
|
the corporate ladder by virtue of hard work and keen business |
|
sense and eventually became chief executive officer of Allied |
|
Waste Services; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Turning his energy to politics, Mr. Hubbard |
|
served on the North Richland Hills City Council; following a move |
|
to Colleyville, he again sought a public role in his community |
|
and served as mayor of Colleyville from 1979 to 1983 and again |
|
from 1985 to 1989; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With his love for people and strong |
|
organizational skills, Mr. Hubbard effectively managed the |
|
transition of Colleyville from a rural town to a growing city; |
|
one of his most notable achievements as mayor was to secure a |
|
water supply for the town; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Hubbard was knowledgeable, influential, and |
|
known for his ability to work effectively with people from all |
|
walks of life; he represented his community well and used his |
|
talents to better the lives of his constituents; not content to |
|
simply retire, he relocated to Granbury, where he operated a |
|
400-tree peach orchard called B&B Farm; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, While much of his life was spent in corporate |
|
boardrooms and the political arena, Mr. Hubbard also loved to |
|
work outdoors; he was content to spend his days building fences, |
|
tending his orchard, caring for a few cows, and sharing the |
|
bounty of his peach crop with others; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An exceptionally bright and generous man, Buck |
|
Hubbard touched many lives through his outstanding public |
|
service and abiding love of family and community; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of James "Buck" |
|
Hubbard and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: |
|
to his wife, Billie; to his sons, Sonny, Ronald, and Curtis |
|
Hubbard; to his daughters, Sue Kulaga, Donna Eckhardt, Jan |
|
Freeman, Rhonda Moore, and Sheree Yarborough; and to his other |
|
relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for the family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
this day, it do so in memory of James "Buck" Hubbard. |
