SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 459

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Ishan Kamat of Alice High School, who has won the overall championship in the honors division of the state academic decathlon competition; and

WHEREAS, Ishan became the first student from South Texas to win the overall championship in the honors division and be recognized as the highest-scoring individual at the 4A competition, which had 350 contestants; his score of 8,782 points was bested by only one student among the 700 contestants competing in the various state competitions in Classes 1A through 5A; and

WHEREAS, The academic decathlon team from Alice High School finished among the top teams at the state competition with a sixth place finish; the Alice team took second place in the Super Quiz Relay covering the topic of evolutionary biology; and

WHEREAS, A high achiever, Ishan demonstrated superior talent, perseverance, and the high academic values instilled by his family and his school; he is an excellent scholar and a superb example for his fellow students; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby congratulate Ishan Kamat on his outstanding accomplishment in the state academic decathlon competition and extend to him best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Ishan Kamat as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
