SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 463
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  welcome the delegation from Jackson County, whose members have
  come to Austin to celebrate Jackson County Day at the State
  Capitol on March 24, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Jackson County was one of the original counties of
  the Republic of Texas; it was formed in 1836 and named for
  President Andrew Jackson; Edna is the largest town, county seat,
  and gateway to Lake Texana, the 11,000-acre lake that now covers
  the site of Texana, an early military post, port of entry, and
  trading center and the previous county seat; and
         WHEREAS, The Jackson County area was inhabited by
  Karankawa Indians when Spanish explorers first discovered the
  area in the 16th century; it was later inhabited by Tonkawas and
  Lipan Apaches, and it was settled by six of Stephen F. Austin's
  Old Three Hundred families; and
         WHEREAS, Comprising 844 square miles in the Coastal
  Prairies region southwest of Houston, Jackson County is a
  prosperous agricultural area, and its industries include
  petroleum and natural gas production, oilfield service
  industries, metal fabrication, and plastics manufacturing; and
         WHEREAS, Lake Texana and the Lake Texana State Park are
  ideal for freshwater recreation, fishing, hiking, bird watching,
  and camping; visitors and residents alike enjoy the Brackenridge
  Plantation campground, the Texana Museum, and the area's many
  historical sites; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to Jackson County and extend best
  wishes to its citizens for a wonderful visit to the State Capitol
  on Jackson County Day; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the residents of Jackson County as a token of esteem from the
  Texas Senate.
