SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 476

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Ponder High School Lions boys' basketball team, which recently won its second consecutive University Interscholastic League Class 2A state championship title; and

WHEREAS, The Lions cruised to victory for their second title in a row at the state tournament in Austin, defeating New Waverly High School by a score of 51-39 in a game that saw the Lions pull away in the fourth quarter; and

WHEREAS, These young athletes have demonstrated great talent and perseverance throughout the school year, ending the season with a 40-1 record; team members can take great pride in their outstanding performance; and

WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of an exemplary coaching staff, the Lions have developed exceptional teamwork and discipline; and

WHEREAS, Ponder High School and the City of Ponder are proud of the Lions for their hard work, their impressive skills, and their fine sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend the Ponder High School Lions boys' basketball team on their outstanding season and extend congratulations to them on winning the University Interscholastic League Class 2A state championship title; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
