SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 479
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Madonna Neighborhood Center, Incorporated, on the |
|
|
occasion of its 70th anniversary, which is being celebrated with |
|
|
an anniversary kick-off ceremony on March 25, 2009; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Madonna Neighborhood Center was founded in |
|
|
1939 by the Sisters of Divine Providence; the center assists |
|
|
low-income children, families, and senior citizens in the far |
|
|
west side of San Antonio with a wide range of social services; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Children's services include a day care program and |
|
|
after school programs; family outreach services include a summer |
|
|
recreation program, Saturday morning art enrichment classes, |
|
|
activities, and services for seniors, emergency assistance, |
|
|
counseling, a thrift shop, a youth sports program, and a |
|
|
year-round garden; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The center provides food for those who need it and |
|
|
opportunities for senior citizens that range from field trips, |
|
|
luncheons, and arts and crafts to immunizations and |
|
|
transportation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Madonna Neighborhood Center is funded by the |
|
|
United Way, the Texas Department of Family and Protective |
|
|
Services, the City of San Antonio, the United States Department |
|
|
of Agriculture, and other support from individuals, businesses, |
|
|
fund-raising events, and many dedicated volunteers; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the board of |
|
|
directors, the staff, and the generous supporters and volunteers |
|
|
of the Madonna Neighborhood Center for contributing to the |
|
|
valuable services it provides to those in need in San Antonio and |
|
|
extend to all best wishes for an outstanding and memorable 70th |
|
|
anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the center to commemorate this special occasion. |
