SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 491

WHEREAS, El Mariachi Tejano de Sam Houston in Arlington has consistently delighted audiences, and its members are a source of pride to their classmates at Sam Houston High School, their families, and all of their supporters in the Arlington community; and

WHEREAS, In February 2009, the talented group traveled to Austin to participate in the SchoolJam Texas Battle of the Bands; competing against five non-mariachi bands, they put on an outstanding show, and members Greg Chavez and Marissa Ocampo earned the titles of best vocalist and best overall performer, respectively; and

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of director Marta Ocampo, the members of El Mariachi Tejano de Sam Houston have demonstrated great dedication in their pursuit of their musical education, and it is a pleasure to recognize them for their outstanding record of achievement; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby honor El Mariachi Tejano de Sam Houston for its many accomplishments and extend to its members sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for the band as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
