SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 498
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Austin Section of the National Council of Jewish |
|
|
Women on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A volunteer organization that has stood at the |
|
|
forefront of social change for more than a century, the National |
|
|
Council of Jewish Women works unselfishly to advance the quality |
|
|
of life for women, children, and families; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This respected organization has for many years |
|
|
taken a progressive stance on some of the signal issues of our |
|
|
age, including child welfare, women's rights, and reproductive |
|
|
freedom; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Austin section of the council has put its |
|
|
progressive ideals into action in a variety of ways, including |
|
|
bringing the Komen Race for the Cure to Austin, sponsoring an |
|
|
annual community-wide Women's Seder, and participating in the |
|
|
interfaith Women's Storybook Project; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With 90,000 members nationwide, the National |
|
|
Council of Jewish Women has made a dramatic difference in the |
|
|
lives of countless people through its many programs that |
|
|
emphasize individual rights and freedoms, and the Austin Section |
|
|
has actively furthered the goals of this outstanding |
|
|
organization for 25 years; it is truly deserving of |
|
|
acknowledgement for its commitment to improving our society; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Austin Section of |
|
|
the National Council of Jewish Women on their many contributions |
|
|
to the advancement of progressive values and ideals and extend to |
|
|
them best wishes for a memorable 25th anniversary celebration; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
this outstanding organization as an expression of high regard |
|
|
from the Texas Senate. |
