SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 532
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the citizens of San Antonio in recognizing Elvira Cisneros
  on the grand occasion of the dedication ceremony for the Elvira
  Cisneros Senior Community Center by WellMed on March 30, 2009;
  and
         WHEREAS, Renovated and managed by the WellMed Medical
  Group, the community center is named in honor of one of San
  Antonio's most distinguished and beloved citizens, longtime
  civic leader, Elvira Munguia Cisneros; and
         WHEREAS, Elvira Cisneros raised five successful children
  with her late husband, George, and she has devoted countless
  hours to community service on behalf of many groups, including
  the Avenida Guadalupe Association, the Texas Diabetes Institute,
  the Girl Scouts, the Institute of Texan Cultures, and the
  Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower, where she
  has attended church since its founding in 1926; and
         WHEREAS, For close to three decades, she has been a
  volunteer, advocate, and advisory board member for AVANCE, a
  nonprofit agency that endeavors to strengthen families through
  parenting education and child services for high-risk, low-income
  families; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Cisneros has received numerous awards over
  the years; she was the AVANCE Mother of the Year and received the
  Ford Salute to Education Community Service Award; she was
  inducted into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame for her civic
  leadership, and she has been honored for her community service by
  United Way and presidents Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan; and
         WHEREAS, Elvira Cisneros has demonstrated exceptional
  dedication to the betterment of her community, and it is indeed
  appropriate that the new senior community activity center in San
  Antonio be named for this gracious and revered lady who has done
  so much for her city; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend Elvira Cisneros for her many
  contributions to the City of San Antonio and extend
  congratulations to her and to the citizens of San Antonio on the
  dedication of the Elvira Cisneros Senior Community Center by
  WellMed; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
