SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 535

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjacks basketball team and head coach Danny Kaspar, who recently won the Southland Conference and earned the school's first invitation to the National Collegiate Athletics Association tournament; and

WHEREAS, The Lumberjacks earned their tournament berth by defeating The University of Texas at San Antonio by a score of 68-57 in the finals of the Southland Conference championship tournament; and

WHEREAS, These young athletes have demonstrated great talent and perseverance throughout the school year, ending the season with a 24-7 record; team members can take pride in their outstanding performances; and

WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of head coach Danny Kaspar, the Lumberjacks have developed one of the nation's top defenses through exceptional teamwork and discipline; and

WHEREAS, Stephen F. Austin State University, the City of Nacogdoches, and Texans throughout the state are proud of the Lumberjacks for their hard work, their impressive skills, and their fine sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend head coach Danny Kaspar and the Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjacks basketball team on their successful season and extend congratulations to them on receiving the school's first bid to the National Collegiate Athletics Association tournament; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
