SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 544
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to pay |
|
|
tribute to the farmers and ranchers of our state on the occasion |
|
|
of Agriculture Day in Texas, which is being celebrated April 2, |
|
|
2009; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Agriculture plays a vital role in nearly every |
|
|
facet of daily life, from the food we eat to the clothes we wear, |
|
|
and Texas' farmers, ranchers, and their families continue to |
|
|
ensure that we enjoy an abundant, reliable, and affordable supply |
|
|
of food, natural fiber, and other essential products; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Agriculture is the second-largest resource-based |
|
|
industry in Texas, producing nearly 10 percent of the state's |
|
|
gross product while employing one out of every seven working |
|
|
Texans; with a financial impact of more than $100 billion, |
|
|
agriculture is an indispensable part of our state's economy; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Texas leads the nation in the production of |
|
|
cattle, horses, sheep, goats, cotton, hay, wool, and mohair; |
|
|
Texas agriculture further produces seven percent of the nation's |
|
|
total agricultural income; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The farmers and ranchers of Texas face |
|
|
ever-increasing challenges even as they play an important role in |
|
|
water conservation, rural economic development, global trade, |
|
|
and environmental preservation; they are truly deserving of |
|
|
respect and acknowledgement for their role in making Texas a |
|
|
leader in agricultural production; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Texas are urged to join |
|
|
Commissioner Todd Staples of the Texas Department of Agriculture |
|
|
in honoring the farmers and ranchers of Texas by observing April |
|
|
2, 2009, as Agriculture Day in Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Texas farmers and ranchers on their |
|
|
priceless contributions to our state and nation and designate |
|
|
April 2, 2009, as Agriculture Day in Texas; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this special day. |
