SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 549
         WHEREAS, Members of the Chosen Vessel Cathedral in Fort
  Worth are joining together on April 5, 2009, to celebrate the
  dedication of the new Community Life and Learning Center; and
         WHEREAS, Guided by the missionary efforts of Annie
  Gillispy, Chosen Vessel Cathedral was established in 1920; the
  first Afro-American apostolic church in Fort Worth, it has been
  blessed with many compassionate and able leaders through the
  years, including Bishop William North and Elders Frank Coats,
  John Sanders, William Thompson, William Foree, and Thomas Jones;
  today, that tradition of service continues with the inspired
  teachings of the church's senior pastor, Bishop Richard E. Young;
  and
         WHEREAS, Through regular worship services, outreach
  efforts, and the development of special programs, the church
  strives to serve members of all ages as well as the greater
  community; and
         WHEREAS, In an effort to better meet that goal, Chosen
  Vessel Cathedral has established the new Community Life and
  Learning Center; containing a basketball and volleyball court,
  bowling alley, fitness center, sports cafe, and several
  classrooms, this notable facility will also be the new home for
  the Southwest Community Economic Development Corporation, a
  nonprofit organization founded by Bishop Young in 2002; in
  addition, the center will help to bolster efforts to assist youth
  and community outreach by providing space for additional
  government-funded programming, including Project F.A.M.I.L.Y.
  and a mentorship program for children of incarcerated parents;
  and
         WHEREAS, Sustained by a common purpose and warm
  fellowship, the congregants of Chosen Vessel Cathedral have
  remained steadfast in their dedication to their church and in
  their ministry to the world around them, and it is a pleasure to
  join in commemorating this special event; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby warmly congratulate all those associated
  with Chosen Vessel Cathedral on the dedication of the new
  Community Life and Learning Center and extend to them sincere
  best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for the church as an expression of high regard from the
  Texas Senate.
