SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 563
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the El Paso del Norte region YWCA on the occasion of its
  100th anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, The El Paso del Norte region YWCA was founded in
  1909 with an employment bureau and lunchroom for working women
  and expanded the following year to include a 52-bed residence for
  young women; and
         WHEREAS, Through the years, this exemplary organization
  has made a difference in the lives of countless people; it
  directed the only relief school in Texas during the Great
  Depression, and it participated in the campaign against
  discrimination when the national body established its Office of
  Racial Justice in the 1960s; and
         WHEREAS, Today, this respected organization continues its
  quest for social justice in all its programs and services,
  exemplifying the national YWCA's call to work for the empowerment
  of women and the elimination of racism; and
         WHEREAS, The El Paso del Norte region YWCA offers a diverse
  scope of programs and services, including day care centers,
  summer camps, racial justice seminars, programs that help
  children deal with the effects of divorce, and credit counseling
  services; this exceptional organization is truly deserving of
  recognition for its many contributions to the El Paso community;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend the El Paso del Norte region YWCA on
  its 100-year legacy of social justice efforts and success in
  improving the lives of women and children and extend best wishes
  for a memorable 100th anniversary celebration; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  this outstanding organization as an expression of high regard
  from the Texas Senate.
