SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 579
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize Lionel's Western Wear on the store's 50th anniversary; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, The family-run western-wear department store was |
|
founded in Weslaco 50 years ago by the late Lionel Oliveira; |
|
Lionel worked his way up through the ranks of his |
|
brother-in-law's E. de la Rosa Department Stores; he moved to |
|
Weslaco in 1959 and founded his own business; and |
|
WHEREAS, The successful retail store eventually |
|
specialized in western wear; in 1984, Lionel retired and left his |
|
business in the hands of his daughter, Sandy Peña, and his son |
|
Lionel Oliveira, Jr.; and |
|
WHEREAS, The store has changed with the times, expanding to |
|
include a women's department and other styles; from January to |
|
March, the store showcases its wares in more than 20 style shows; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Lionel's Western Wear is a fine example of a |
|
family-run business and is thriving today in the Rio Grande |
|
Valley, where rodeo clothing still sells and area citizens are |
|
appreciative of the store's tradition and history; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate Lionel's Western Wear on its |
|
50th anniversary and extend best wishes for the future to all who |
|
have contributed to the store's success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
honor of Lionel's Western Wear. |
