SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 579
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Lionel's Western Wear on the store's 50th anniversary;
  and
         WHEREAS, The family-run western-wear department store was
  founded in Weslaco 50 years ago by the late Lionel Oliveira;
  Lionel worked his way up through the ranks of his
  brother-in-law's E. de la Rosa Department Stores; he moved to
  Weslaco in 1959 and founded his own business; and
         WHEREAS, The successful retail store eventually
  specialized in western wear; in 1984, Lionel retired and left his
  business in the hands of his daughter, Sandy Peña, and his son
  Lionel Oliveira, Jr.; and
         WHEREAS, The store has changed with the times, expanding to
  include a women's department and other styles; from January to
  March, the store showcases its wares in more than 20 style shows;
  and
         WHEREAS, Lionel's Western Wear is a fine example of a
  family-run business and is thriving today in the Rio Grande
  Valley, where rodeo clothing still sells and area citizens are
  appreciative of the store's tradition and history; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby congratulate Lionel's Western Wear on its
  50th anniversary and extend best wishes for the future to all who
  have contributed to the store's success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of Lionel's Western Wear.
