SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 586
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Madison Davis on the occasion of the statewide |
|
|
commemoration of the Month of the Military Child, which is being |
|
|
celebrated in April, 2009; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, As part of the celebration, the Texas Senate |
|
|
Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations |
|
|
sponsored an Art and Poetry Contest for children whose parents |
|
|
are current or recent members of the military forces; Madison was |
|
|
selected a winner in the art contest; she is a fourth-grade |
|
|
student at Clear Creek Elementary School in Fort Hood, and her |
|
|
art will remain on display at the State Capitol throughout the |
|
|
legislative session; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Month of the Military Child was established in |
|
|
1986 to honor the importance of the children whose parents serve |
|
|
our nation in the armed forces; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Military children face unique challenges as they |
|
|
grow up in a military family; over the course of a military career |
|
|
the average family moves nine times, forcing a young person to |
|
|
change schools and say goodbye to friends and familiar faces, and |
|
|
long overseas deployments also present special difficulties for |
|
|
children and parents; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Madison has faced these challenges with courage |
|
|
and composure, providing her parents with steadfast support as |
|
|
they fulfill their duty in service to our nation; her resilience |
|
|
and self-confidence are truly deserving of recognition as we |
|
|
celebrate the Month of the Military Child; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Madison Davis on her important role |
|
|
in maintaining the morale of our armed forces while meeting the |
|
|
unique challenges of the military way of life; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
