SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 588
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Destineye' Prosser-Phillips on the occasion of the |
|
|
statewide commemoration of the Month of the Military Child, which |
|
|
is being celebrated in April, 2009; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, As part of the celebration, the Texas Senate |
|
|
Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations |
|
|
sponsored an Art and Poetry Contest for children whose parents |
|
|
are current or recent members of the military forces; Destineye' |
|
|
was selected a winner in the poetry contest; she is a 10th-grade |
|
|
student at Robert M. Shoemaker High School in Fort Hood, and her |
|
|
poetry will remain on display at the State Capitol throughout the |
|
|
legislative session; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Month of the Military Child was established in |
|
|
1986 to honor the importance of the children whose parents serve |
|
|
our nation in the armed forces; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Military children face unique challenges as they |
|
|
grow up in a military family; over the course of a military career |
|
|
the average family moves nine times, forcing a young person to |
|
|
change schools and say goodbye to friends and familiar faces, and |
|
|
long overseas deployments also present special difficulties for |
|
|
children and parents; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Destineye' has faced these challenges with |
|
|
courage and composure, providing her parents with steadfast |
|
|
support as they fulfill their duty in service to our nation; her |
|
|
resilience and self-confidence are truly deserving of |
|
|
recognition as we celebrate the Month of the Military Child; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Destineye' Prosser-Phillips on her |
|
|
important role in maintaining the morale of our armed forces |
|
|
while meeting the unique challenges of the military way of life; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
