SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 596

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Josefina Pedraza Tamez on the grand occasion of her 86th birthday; and

WHEREAS, This gracious lady is well known for her charm and generosity of spirit, and she is beloved by her extended family and her many friends; and

WHEREAS, Josefina Pedraza Tamez was born April 22, 1923, in Losoya; she married her next-door neighbor Esteban Tamez in 1946, and the couple traveled the world as a military family, raising seven children who blessed them with 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Tamez is respected for her work ethic and has been a valuable employee throughout her life; she retired from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where she had risen quickly through the ranks to become a supervisor of the housekeeping department; and

WHEREAS, From the Great Depression to World War II to the moon landing, Mrs. Tamez has borne witness to the 20th century's momentous events over the course of her life, and the younger members of her family are fortunate to be able to hear first-hand accounts of a very different way of life from days gone by; and

WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community, Mrs. Tamez is noted for her courage, her compassion for others, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby recognize Josefina Pedraza Tamez as a treasured citizen of our state and extend to her best wishes for a memorable 86th birthday; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
