SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 599
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Thomas S. Goggan III
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Thomas S. Goggan III,
  who died March 21, 2009, at the age of 65; and
 
         WHEREAS, Thomas S. Goggan was born in Dallas on February
  21, 1944, to Marion and Thomas S. Goggan, Jr.; he grew up in San
  Antonio and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1962;
  he earned a combined bachelor of arts and bachelor of laws degree
  from The University of Texas at Austin in 1967; and
 
         WHEREAS, For the first 14 years of his career, he practiced
  criminal and civil law, and he represented some of Austin's most
  illustrious citizens and argued cases before the United States
  Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States
  Supreme Court; and
 
         WHEREAS, He was a founding partner of the law firm of
  Linebarger, Goggan, Blair, and Sampson; he coauthored the
  Matthew Bender text on ad valorem taxation, and he was an active
  member of the State Bar of Texas; he taught classes for
  continuing legal education and served on the Administration of
  Justice and Administrative Law committees; and
 
         WHEREAS, His talent for litigation served his firm well,
  and he continued to represent clients in complex tax cases to the
  end of his career; and
 
         WHEREAS, Those who knew Thomas Goggan will long remember
  him for his boundless intellectual curiosity and the intensity
  with which he embraced life; he was an avid reader and especially
  enjoyed the great works of world literature and political
  histories; and
 
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
  grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
  forever by his family and his many friends; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Thomas S. Goggan III: his wife, Dianne Goggan; his
  daughters and sons-in-law, Ingrid and Vasileios Lelos and Rachel
  Goggan and Travis Indgjer; his grandchildren, Pericles and
  Anastasia Lelos and Rowan and Abigail Indgjer; and his sister,
  Susan Goggan; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Thomas S. Goggan III.
