Thomas S. Goggan III |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Thomas S. Goggan III, |
|
who died March 21, 2009, at the age of 65; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Thomas S. Goggan was born in Dallas on February |
|
21, 1944, to Marion and Thomas S. Goggan, Jr.; he grew up in San |
|
Antonio and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1962; |
|
he earned a combined bachelor of arts and bachelor of laws degree |
|
from The University of Texas at Austin in 1967; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For the first 14 years of his career, he practiced |
|
criminal and civil law, and he represented some of Austin's most |
|
illustrious citizens and argued cases before the United States |
|
Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States |
|
Supreme Court; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was a founding partner of the law firm of |
|
Linebarger, Goggan, Blair, and Sampson; he coauthored the |
|
Matthew Bender text on ad valorem taxation, and he was an active |
|
member of the State Bar of Texas; he taught classes for |
|
continuing legal education and served on the Administration of |
|
Justice and Administrative Law committees; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, His talent for litigation served his firm well, |
|
and he continued to represent clients in complex tax cases to the |
|
end of his career; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Those who knew Thomas Goggan will long remember |
|
him for his boundless intellectual curiosity and the intensity |
|
with which he embraced life; he was an avid reader and especially |
|
enjoyed the great works of world literature and political |
|
histories; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and |
|
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured |
|
forever by his family and his many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Thomas S. Goggan III: his wife, Dianne Goggan; his |
|
daughters and sons-in-law, Ingrid and Vasileios Lelos and Rachel |
|
Goggan and Travis Indgjer; his grandchildren, Pericles and |
|
Anastasia Lelos and Rowan and Abigail Indgjer; and his sister, |
|
Susan Goggan; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Thomas S. Goggan III. |
