SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 618
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Omicron Gamma Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta |
|
|
Sorority, Incorporated, on the occasion of the 80th Southern |
|
|
Regional Conference and Youth Retreat; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Omicron Gamma Zeta Chapter is hosting the |
|
|
Southern Regional Conference and Youth Retreat June 11 through 13 |
|
|
in Houston; the Southern Region is comprised of chapters from |
|
|
Texas and Louisiana; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, was founded |
|
|
January 16, 1920, on the campus of Howard University in |
|
|
Washington, D.C., by five illustrious ladies; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The sorority is a nonprofit organization that is |
|
|
dedicated to public service; its national and local programs |
|
|
include those that foster endowment of its National Education |
|
|
Foundation, community outreach services, and support of multiple |
|
|
organizations, such as the March of Dimes; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The chapters and auxiliary groups devote |
|
|
countless volunteer hours to serving the community; they educate |
|
|
the public, assist youths, provide scholarships, support |
|
|
charities, promote legislation for social and civic change, and |
|
|
promote voter registration; the sorority's Zetas Helping Other |
|
|
People Excel program helps to meet the critical social needs of |
|
|
men, women, and children; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Omicron Gamma Zeta Chapter works hard to |
|
|
uphold the ideals and fulfill the mission of Zeta Phi Beta |
|
|
Sorority, and the chapter is proud to host the 80th Southern |
|
|
Regional Conference and Youth Retreat; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority on its |
|
|
many contributions to our state and country and extend best |
|
|
wishes to the Omicron Gamma Zeta Chapter on the occasion of the |
|
|
80th Southern Regional Conference and Youth Retreat; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this event. |
