SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 631
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Robert Ellis Guice
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Robert Ellis Guice,
  who died April 2, 2009, at the age of 52; and
 
         WHEREAS, Robert Ellis Guice was born in Dallas on February
  3, 1957; he was an exemplary citizen, respected in his Highland
  Hills community for his many achievements and his dedicated work
  with young people; and
 
         WHEREAS, For more than 20 years, Mr. Guice was an active
  volunteer for the Dallas Independent School District, working
  with at-risk students at Madison, Lincoln, and A. Maceo Smith
  High Schools; he also served as president of the Parent Teacher
  Association at J. N. Ervin Elementary School; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Guice shared his love of history and public
  service with the community by arranging student trips to
  Washington, D.C., to observe government in action and to
  experience in person such historic events as the funerals of Rosa
  Parks and Coretta Scott King and the inauguration of President
  Barack Obama; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Guice served as executive director of the
  nonprofit organization Hope Crime Watch, and he also played an
  important role in many campaigns for local and national
  candidates; and
 
         WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his
  daily life, Mr. Guice was a faithful member of Bon Air Baptist
  Church; and
 
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Guice was devoted to his large extended
  family, and he will long be remembered for his generous spirit
  and his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Robert Ellis Guice: his sisters, Farrie Ratcliff,
  Carolyn Guice, and Shirley Brown; his brothers, George Hall,
  Vastine Guice, Ledell Moss, and Leonard Jordon; and his many
  nieces, nephews, and other beloved relatives; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Robert Ellis Guice.
