SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 638

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. Jerry Bawcom for his outstanding service as president of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor for almost two decades; and

WHEREAS, During Jerry Bawcom's tenure as president, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor has made outstanding progress; the university has experienced a large increase in student enrollment and has added degree offerings such as a master of science in nursing degree and a doctor of education degree; the endowment has more than quadrupled, while the athletic program has been expanded to include a football program and women's soccer; and

WHEREAS, The campus has grown from 100 acres to more than 250 acres, several new facilities have been added, and the physical plant has been expanded; the football team and women's soccer team have competed for and won several national championships; and

WHEREAS, An outstanding leader for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Jerry Bawcom has ensured the fiscal soundness of the university and demonstrated his support for the faculty, the students, and the community; upon the conclusion of his tenure as president in May of 2009, he will assume the position of chancellor for the university; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Jerry Bawcom for his valuable contributions to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and to the educational system of this state and extend to him best wishes in his new role as chancellor; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
