SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 640
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Big Country BBQ Cook-Off as a Texas State Barbecue
  Championship competition; and
 
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Juneteenth West Texas
  Organization, Incorporated, the cook-off raises funds for the
  organization's youth enrichment scholarship and literacy
  programs to be held throughout the year to benefit youth at risk;
  and
 
         WHEREAS, The staff and members of the board of directors of
  the Juneteenth West Texas Organization are all volunteers; this
  outstanding organization is demonstrating by example that
  nonprofit organizations and volunteers are crucial for all
  communities; and
 
         WHEREAS, One of the goals of the Juneteenth West Texas
  Organization is to raise funds to build a center that will offer
  literacy programs to youths and adults at no cost; and
 
         WHEREAS, Texans are noted for their love of barbecue, and
  over the years, Texas barbecue cook-off cooks have provided
  superior cuisine, satisfying the most discriminating of palates;
  the Big Country BBQ Cook-Off contributes to the continuation of
  this vital Texas tradition; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby declare the Big Country BBQ Cook-Off a Texas
  State Barbecue Championship competition and extend best wishes
  to all associated with the event; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the organizers of the cook-off as an expression of esteem from
  the Texas Senate.
